Now that Planner, a central feature in Mingle Plus, has been out in the wild a bit, we’re beginning to receive questions, whose answers we think would be helpful to our community. So we’re going to start posting them in both the Mingle Knowledge Base and Mingle Q&A forums.
The first one we’d like to answer is, “Does when I add work to an objective affect forecasting in my plan?”
The answer is, “No.” When you add work to your objective does not affect the forecasting calculation in Planner. It is the “current” scope value that is used to calculate forecasts.
As part of this calculation, Mingle Plus also uses what we call the “real done date,” that is, when your work item was completed in your Mingle project, not when it was added to your plan. You can read more about how we calculate forecasts here.
So though you may see a jump in your actual scope line (most likely on the day you created your plan and as in the image below), don’t be concerned. This line simply shows when work was added to your plan. (Though do be on the look-out for jumps in scope as your plan progresses.)
