    Hi Simon,

We have not exposed the ability to sort by Rank to wiki macros yet, but we are currently looking at this for inclusion in one of our upcoming releases. Stay tuned.

I have moved this to the Feature Request space so that others can see that it has been requested.

This would be really useful.  Can't wait for this feature as we are keen to see our backlog ordered by rank in the List view.

we'd like this too.  it's an important aspect of communication to other parts of our organization that aren't so tied into the development process and don't necessarily track progress on the card wall.

Add my vote for this feature in a near-future version.

I'd give my right arm for this feature. (And I'm right-handed!)

    Thanks,

This is not documented or supported and it could very possibly break in the next release.

That being said, this works in Mingle 3.3:

    {{

    table

query: SELECT Number, Name WHERE Type = Story ORDER BY Project_Card_Rank

    }}

This is not documented or supported and it could very possibly break in the next release.

    Hi Steven,

We haven't scheduled this yet, but would like to know how you would use this feature and why? How would it change the way you work? We'd be very interested in details about your process and context around this request.

    Cheers,

    Melissa

Since Matt shared this 18mos ago, we've embedded it deeply in our process. As far as we're concerned, this is released functionality - I hope you don't take it away. We use it in mql on both cards and wikis. For example, since the team prioritized tasks and defects in a sprint, our story card has a table query that lists tasks and defects in "this cars" ordered by rank, with appropriate columns. We use wiki pages to report progress on client features to stakeholders outside of the software team, these features are ranked by the business, so we report on them, in rank order. The other place where rank is missing is the card wall when you group by rows--please add support for that. For example, in our standup, we look at task status by story where status is the swim lanes and stories are the rows. The stories are sorted alphabetically. That has no value to us. -stone

    Hi Stone,

Thanks for sharing. We have no plans to remove the "order by rank" macro, though as Matt mentioned, it is not officially supported so even if it has continued to work in subsequent releases, we can't guarantee that it will continue working in future releases as well. However, please let us know if you encounter problems after an upgrade so we can try to make sure your process isn't disrupted.

I've added your context about displaying information in priority order to our story and noted your input around ranking in rows. We'll keep you posted about both. Thanks again for reaching out.

    Cheers,

    Melissa

    Hi All,

This feature is official in Mingle 13.1 now. Please feel safe to continue using it as you were. And you can read more about Mingle's card ranking and table query in our help documentation.

    Thanks,

    Huimin

    Hi,

We use this a lot but it seems that the order by doesn’t always work properly. Or that we are missing some vital info.
Example: I’ve got a property that shows subsystems and also a property that shows priority. My MQL displays no, name, subsystem and priority and order by card rank.
If I look at the grid view the ranking is perfect but in my list the subsystem is not grouped together as in grid view.
Doesn’t order by take one column at a time and display the cards? It seems almost like I’ve got a column with to many subsystem cards for this to work (but it’s only 13 cards…)

    Hi Lisa,

If I understand correctly, you are trying to have a list or card group by subsystems first, and order by rank within each subsystem group, right? SQL supports ORDER BY multiple columns. Try this:

    table
query: SELECT number, name, subsystem WHERE type = card order by subsystem, project_card_rank

Let me know whether this works for you. Thanks.

    Super thanks Huimin!

None of us had even tried to use multiple columns. Works perfect if you use ORDER BY [your properties], project_card_rank.
