End of Life for Wiki Markup

Its a shame this has been removed and replaced with the basic WYSIWYG editor.  Firstly we have pages with markup which still exists in the new version of Mingle which we can no longer edit.  The WYSIWYG editor is like a basic feature so why not allow the wiki markup as an advanced option.  Copying content from one story card to another was much simpiler in the old wiki markup version as you didn't get stuck copying across all the preformatted text which is now the case with the new editor.  The editor takes longer to load than the standard wiki markup version.  Also the editing of Marcos is not working correctly in IE8.  Hopefully the wiki markup will make a return as an advanced feature in future releases.

    Hi Robert

Thank you for taking the time to comment and provide us with your feedback. We are sorry that you have experienced some issues with the new editor. I have created a support ticket with regard to the issue editing the macros so that we can troubleshoot this.

Perhaps we can also use that as an opportunity to chat further about your markup and advanced needs? We are interested to learn more about how you are using cards and the impact the new editor has on this experience. We will contact you via the support ticket to learn more.

    Thanks again

I will second Robert's suggestion. It almost felt like taking a step backwards and have caused us many issues.

Same here - great effort with the WYSIWYG, but it totally undermines what was great about Mingle - easy, quick keyboard-based editing of markup.   I find the formatting features unpredictable (just like Word is).  I can't paste in markup that I've prepared in a text editor.  I have to use the mouse.  I can't do inline code blocks.  And it seems like HTML anchors have gone too.  This is all in a ticket #10889.

Is there really really no way back?

    Hi everyone,

Thanks very much for the feedback. We definitely hear you and are considering how to improve the experience around generating content with the new editor. We'd like to speak more with you and will reach out personally to hopefully schedule a time. In the meantime, please continue to share any new feedback you have.

    Cheers,

    Melissa

Huh, I'm scratching my head on this one.  This seems like a big step in the wrong direction and undermines one of the big things that makes Mingle great.  Probably a first step towards us moving on to yet another tool .... :-(

Copying content from a page to another doesn't work well if it contains macros. you'd better allow users to see and copy on the html source code level.

    Hi Li Mo

We have added this feature. It is now available. If you are a Mingle onsite customer you can get the latest installers here on the community.

    Thanks for the feedback.

For Mingle onsite users who have not yet upgraded to 13.2+, please see this wiki markup reference for text formatting and page layout.

This basically means I can't copy my documentation out into TextMate, edit it on the plane, and then copy it back into Mingle when I'm done, right? The move away from markup is the main problem I have with the latest version of Confluence and the reason I'm leaning on github more and more for documentation.

Or is this use-case addressed somehow?

    Hi Jun-Dai,

For the most part, you are right. Only unformatted text would copy from TextMate back to Mingle. Things like *s for bullets would be translated as *s when pasted back into Mingle. However, with other text tools like TextEdit, the formatting would translate over. How often are you working offline and hoping to get content back into Mingle?

    Cheers,

    Melissa
